Collaborative Learning Academy (CLA)

Kitsap Strong has funded and facilitated community and school-based collaborative learning academies (CLA) over the course of the last five years. The CLA is a year-long learning journey that not only fosters partnerships, but facilitates community and school education about the science behind how adversity & trauma impact our brain development and life-long health, as well as the exploration of techniques & strategies for building resilience.

The primary goals:

1. Participants develop a “shared knowledge & language” about ACEs/NEAR sciences

2. Participants develop an increased understanding of the connection between various social issues (drug use, homelessness, poverty, mental health, etc.)

3. Participants increase knowledge of community resources and resiliency building efforts/activities

4. Participants are inspired to explore new ideas/strategies for helping individuals affected by ACEs

5. Participants begin to challenge their “mental model" (deeply held beliefs, assumptions, thoughts) about people who have experienced ACEs
